Except not airtight. I’m staying with coffee filter.

ahhh got it... thinking some clear Flex Seal with nylon stocking for tight crack giving strength..

Peterf: Thanks for the link. Some helpful/useful info there for the Actuell and my radios.
Coffee filters are interesting but I wonder if it would be able to take the 'grind" of a lot of use or if it might filter the sound too much.

You can try just using the rubber cement. But of course it will have no tensile strength. I would say that you could make some very artfully cut little patches out of coffee filters, and rubber cement them in place, on the underside where nobody will see them. You’re just stabilizing and preventing further damage in making these repairs.
