I need further help removing Edison B80 spring barrel

Post by barnettrp21122 »

I've followed CDPDBX's handy posting in removing the spring barrel from my Edison B80 motor, but am having trouble removing the spindle shaft assembly from the motor frame.

Reference: http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... 51#p191551

The spring barrel shaft seems to be holding the assembly in place. The mainspring is either broken or unfastened.
Can the spring barrel shaft be tapped out in one direction or the other?
I've removed the horn gear and shaft already.
Below are pictures of what I'm asking about. The spindle shaft assembly is loose and I can jiggle it, but won't come off.
Again, I think the spring barrel shaft prevents the assembly from lifting off or out.
Thanks for any help!
Bob

A lot of Edison Motors are designed basically similar. I would think that the side with the three bolts (once they are removed) would come right off exposing the MainSpring Barrel to be removed..

The majority of Edison Mainspring Barrels come out once one side of the motorframe is removed. I don't think that you should have to "Tap" anything out....It should just "Fall" out once the side is removed as most Edison motors are.

The design of the majority of Edison Spring Motor machines are usually well designed...and most if not all allow for maintenance in mind. Edison tried to keep things simple to allow quick assembly and quick repairs done in the Factory.

I understand your thoughts, Tony, and thank you.

The assembly should come off, but doesn't with my efforts. There are a couple locating pins in the bottom of the assembly frame, preventing side-to-side movement with the spring barrel shaft in place. That's why I'm wondering if the spring shaft must come out beforehand. Anyone out there who's worked on this specific motor? Thanks again.

From what I can see in the pics...There may be some sleeves that have to be removed before it can come apart... Maybe someone who has worked on a B-80 can chime in..

Thanks again Tony-
I discovered (what I call) the two locating pins could be tapped out through two holes on the underside of the main frame. They were easy to remove, and then the spindle shaft assembly came right off! I have the spring barrel ready to be opened, but will contact Ron Sitko to see if he'll do the spring replacement.
