When my four kids were little and still living at home I'd start celebrating the fourth in what I thought was a fun way.
First thing in the morning, I'd take my Victor 50 portable upstairs into the hallway outside their bedrooms, crank 'er up and blast Sousas' "Stars and Stripes Forever".
They didn't like it
But that didn't stop me from doing it for years.
Well, the years have passed. They're all in their 20s or 30s and have move out. But, that hasn't stopped me!!!
Oh, no!
Now, what I do, is the same thing, only now I put my cell phone in front of the Orthophonic speaker, dial each one individually and, start the record!!!
For a couple of years, I forgot to call them and, you know, I heard about from them. They missed it!!!
I'm very lucky that my wife and all the kids love the phonographs and record.
We do a big family dinner every Sunday and it's not unusual for the kids to crank up the phonographs and play records.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the story.

Re: Celebrating the Fourth
Good story. Thanks for sharing. My 2&4 minute Model B Gem is loaded in my truck. We'll spend the 4th at our family reunion. Stars & Stripes will be the first cylinder played. Jerry

I just got done playing Sousa Stars and Stripes Forever on Victor BW series. Loud as a firework! Happy Fourth, esp to my dad who has passed but was a WW 2 vet.

I just started my listening session. So far I pulled out:
America (my country 'tis of thee) by Sousa's band on victor label (flip side American Patriotic Airs)
God Bless America by Deanna Durban on Decca
America the beautiful by Frank Luther on Decca
The marines hymn/coast guard forever by fred waring on decca
The army Air Corps March on Bluebird.
Only thing i'm missing is some friends to listen with!
Happy Independence Day everyone

I have been playing my Sousa Marches, and patriotic songs. Then I will be at my VFW Post for our annual July 4th barbeque. Thanks to all who served and support us for the Freedoms we have today.
