I was on Instagram and randomly found a seller on there in Europe (specifically Spain) that sells the new reproduction cutter assemblies with new stylus online. Can be found here: https://www.pedrofono.es/p/phonograph-r ... ing-stylus
I remember when I was looking for an Edison recorder I could always find them without the cutter for good prices...but couldn’t locate the missing pieces. That was a long time ago, maybe things are different now but I wanted to share in case anyone else was looking for some. I believe they have Pathé and Columbia cutters as well.
Hope everyone had a good weekend!

I was curious as to how the material used in this item compared to other materials used to make phonograph cutting edges and phonograph needles.
A quick check of the Mohs index shows that Borosilicate glass is rated on the scale at 7.5, compared to 6.5 for window glass, 9 for Sapphire and 10 for Diamond.
In absolute hardness terms, Sapphire is about 6.5 times harder than Borosilicate glass and Borosilicate glass is about twice as hard as window glass.

Having never owned one, do any of the glass diaphragms on his website fit and work with an Edison recorder?

Hi J.F. an all,
Thank you for posting this on the forum.
I fabricate the cutters. I can make them for Edison, Columbia, Pathé or any other recorder if you give me the dimensions or a picture.
I've tested them and borosilicate glass is hard enough for cutting at least 100 cylinders. And it can be resharpened with one stroke of a diamond lap.
I am going to do also a sapphire version but the price will be higher.
I can also supply a kit consisting on the glass or mica diaphragm, cutter and glue if you need it.
If you don't feel confident to install it yourself you can always send me the rwcorder and I will install it.
Best regards
Pedro Martinez

What a discovery! Thanks to EdisonWizard for making Pedro's services known to us, and thanks to Pedro for providing highly specialised services and components (some of them otherwise unobtainable as far as I can tell) at what seem very reasonable prices.

Just a FYI, I'm also working on 2 and 4 minute cutting styli. The 2 minute are ruby and the 4 minute are sapphire. I don't intend to male an entire assembly, like Pedro (who's is very nice, and affordable), I only intend to sell the stylus itself.
They'll be ready in the next 2 weeks "or so".
