Super-deluxe VTLA Victrola XX

Post by apruizii »

According to the Victor Data Book 530 Victrola XX were produced. Does anyone know how many of those with the gold leafed carvings survived?

Thanks,

"Not more than 530" is the only way to answer that question. I have one and feel as though I know of 10 or so that I have seen or heard mentioned on this board over the years, but there is no way to know what the complete population of survivors is. Its Rare! John

I have owned two XX's over the last 25- 30 years , one with and one without gold leaf, I still have the gold leaf, I used to think the XX was super scarce but here the last couple of years I have heard of several. It would be interesting for forum members that own one to respond to this topic and to indicate gold or not gold.

tictalk,

I think that's a great idea and include a serial number! I was very lucky to run across a gold leaf one recently (VTLA 8394) and wanted to learn more about them.

I still need to clean it up. I've attached a photo.

I currently have two, SN. 7067 & 7225. Recently sold another, but don't have the SN. for that one handy.

They were advertised as the Victor Victrola XX (Louis XV design). Ours is #5165.

I have one in my collection as well. Here is a video I posted of it playing on my YouTube channel way back in 2010:

Regarding my intro comments on this video, please keep in mind that this was almost 9 years ago and my estimate of less than 30 of this model existing was purely conjecture. I will try to update this post with the serial number when I have an opportunity to move a few things out of the way to get at it (yikes...running out of space here).

I great looking machine for sure. I perfer it to the all gold painted model which is similar.. Oddly I remember when a local dealer had the Chinese painted Gold version for 100.00 and I thought it was outrageous. My how times change!

WOW, so far there are only 8 XX machines referenced in this thread and another 6 (including 1 reference to one on ebay) in other threads on the forum. Apparently, there are not many XX machines out there.

Is the Victrola XX considered to be the "holy grail" of upright Victrolas?
