I have a Grafonola 3 spring motor that I am going over for a friend. I cleaned and greased/oiled all the gears and governor, but did not do the springs. The speed adjustment works but it seems to slow down and speed up slightly. Any suggestions what could cause that?

Re: Grafonola motor question
The springs are surely packed with dried grease. This makes the springs release their tension in bursts.
There is no option but to remove the springs, soak them on a strong solvent, clean them and repack them with graphite loaded grease.
