Todays Amazing Find!!

Post by Pete Stratford »

I got a call from a lady who said she had an Edison for sale. So on the way over I am thinking it is probably an Amberola 30 or a Rough looking Edison Standard. Machines just don't turn up here very often and our climate in Nova Scotia is very hard on Phonographs. Most machines ended up in attics and damp basements and are usually found in poor condition. To my surprise what she had was an Edison Triumph model A in nice condition with a large horn. The machine had belonged to her Great Grandfather who purchased it new in Connecticut. The family moved to Nova Scotia about 20 years ago. Fortunately it had been stored in a nice dry basement. I asked how much she wanted for it and she replied " would $100 be too much to ask". I gave her $200 and she was thrilled! Here are a few picture "as is' dirt and all. The horn is dirty and tarnished but has no dents. It is 42" long with a 20" bell.

Very nice find, Peter! It has obviously been well cared for over the years. Congratulations on being this machine's new caretaker.

I forgot to mention the the Lady I bought it from says she has the original 14 " Brass bell horn and a box of wax cylinders that she will give me when they turn up. Her basement was huge and full of boxes. She plans to sort the basement out in the spring.

"I got a call from a lady who said she had an Edison for sale."

How did she know to call? Did you advertise? No one gets call like this out of the blue except my friend Roger Merenkov. Antique phonographs find him! :? In any event, congratulations on a great find at a great price.
