It's funny how out of enthusiasm some tins that are definitely not needle-related eventually ended up in the book.

Exactly as they do in my small collection of needle tins, if they are bizarre and amusing (I found the oval tin jammed deep in the horn of an HMV 102 just a few days ago).

In case anyone is interested in making Columbia paper needle pack replicas, I am attaching templates that I made from originals. Just print them out in color, cut them out, then fold and paste them together. I made them to fill a Columbia counter display.
These should be printed as 8.5"x11" landscape layout.

The "Needle Tin Bible" is Grammophon-Nadeldosen by Horst-Dieter Linz. It has pictures and info on nearly every known needle tin and variation. They normally retail around $90 USD, but there is one on Amazon for $31 USD.

I was sold on your picture and have ordered a copy! Actually is even cheaper here in Britain £18 with postage which is around $24 USD.

The laxative tin is included because it had been used as a needle tin.

Interesting. The large circular Songster tin is a 1980s/90s reproduction although I don’t think it’s copying an actual original tin, more a fantasy item. I remember seeing a lot of them at the time, they were only a few £’s but now on eBay they can appear with crazy high prices being sold as original. That said I wish I’d picked one up at the time, it’s a nice looking tin.

As Jamie partly covered, over the years some difficulties have arisen in distinguishing what is genuine from what is false in the tins/needles sector.

One parallel thing I have observed is that today many (if not most) needle tins are sold refilled with some random unknown new needles of uncertain quality (which are of course of no use to the advanced gramophone enthusiast). At the rise of eBay, twenty years ago or such, this bad custom was unheard of, and one could be relatively sure that, should the tin contain any needles, these were indeed the genuine ones sold with the tin in its time.

The Songster tin was a kind gift from a fellow CAPS member.

I was reasonably certain that it was not original. It's condition, particularly that of the bottom half, is far too good. Also it has a UPC bar code sticker on the bottom with a stated price of $3.25. Whether this is Canadian or US dollars is unknown.

Notwithstanding all of the above, I am quite fond of the tin.
