Years ago I assembled a Maroon GEM from pieces and parts. When I didn’t know better, I painting an old beat up case with Shellac, thinking this was the correct way to restore it. I even applied it over an old decal that was badly damaged.

I now realize after all these years that I did this wrong. I’ve never refinished the case and now would like to do it the correct way. I have no idea about how to go about this.

How do I proceed? I imagine I need to remove the shellac and then reapply something. I’d like to take off the old damaged decal and put on a new one as well. Any advice on how to proceed would be most appreciated. Thank you all so very much!

Could you please document this for all the phonograph community as many of us (me) need to see it done. I have some big phonograph projects coming up and it has been decades since doing refinishing. Thanks James Manker
