April 21, 1899: Louis Valiquet filed for a U.S. patent for “Gramophone Motor.” Beginning in March/April 1900, this would be marketed as the Zonophone, the first successful competitor to Berliner and, for awhile, the only disc talking machine legally available in the U.S. For more: https://forum.antiquephono.org/topic/49 ... mment-2628
