Victrola Revere - Sounds better than my Credenza

I recently purchased a Victrola Revere on Craigslist, the second I've found here in St. Louis, MO. My first Revere was sold a few years ago before I had a house and a Credenza to go with it. Now that I have a Credenza I thought I had everything, but this Revere proved me wrong. I never enjoyed the sound of my last Revere, even though it was on a wood floor. This machine, however, is much different. Perhaps it's because I carefully filled all the cracks in the horn and then sanded all of the horns surface smooth. My Credenza lent its soundbox so I could hear the Revere and the bass and performance of the same soundbox on the Revere is far better.

I'm curious. Is the turntable shaft slightly bent on this one [or was it]?
It looks suspiciously like the Revere that was stolen from me back in '98 (in Brentwood, Mo.). If it is, I'm just happy to see it has finally found a good home with someone who loves it as much as I did. :)

Interesting that it sounds better than a credenza. Is the horn the same size on both machines or is the Revere significantly smaller? Looks like a hot machine.

Are the feet on your Revere replacements? Just wondering because the bun feet on my Revere look bigger than the feet on your machine. Seems these feet like to develop cracks over time. A Granada I owned had the same problem as this machine.

The feet were sawed off at some point as was the cabinet also refinished. Regardless, I got it for a great price and am not complaining about its condition!

Hi Sharon,
yes my Victor 9-55 cabinet - which has bun feet - has the same problem as three out of the four bun feet have cracks / splits. I examined the foot from underneath and it looks like the bun is formed out of a central cube of wood but around this are attached other pieces of wood to make the whole piece big enough to form the bun. The splits on my feet have occured where these additional pieces have come away from the central core. I have attached a photo of the cracks in one of the bun feet - unfortunately I didn't take any of the underneath whilst I had the cabinet on its back

Thanks, folks, for noticing the feet. Mine had them, but they weren't carved like the ones above. The crank escutcheon bearing was also loose from the plate on mine. During the years I had mine [1975-1998], I didn't know of a supplier that had them available. Of course, I do now and have gotten replacements for two Victrolas in my collection today.
I'm not sure the area of the horn was the same size as that in the Credenza, but the orientation of it [if not over carpet] made the sound spread evenly around the room and it was a marvel to hear those early electric records play back with a clarity that I only dreamed of when playing the same records on more modern equipment. One thing I found was that often, recordings that were terribly muddy on electric playback became as lifelike as the old ads said, when played on the Revere. :)
