Who can repair HMV motor?

Post by estott »

I have an HMV 109 with a broken spring, doesn't seem to be any other problem. I'd send it to George Vollema but (although he's willing to look at it) he ordinarily doesn't do European machines. Any suggestions of someone in the US who is good for the job?

The motor may be similar to a Victor motor. I bought an HMV 163, and some previous owner had dorked the spring barrel. I replaced it with one from a Victrola VI, and it fit perfectly.

Eric

Your 109 should have the "32" motor exactly the same as the one pictured above in Shane's post - it is a Victor motor!

Yes, I've just looked and that is my motor. Somehow I'm pretty sure a spring is broken- the motor just stopped dead in the middle of a record. Would the fastening at the end be likely to unhook at that time?

I'm going to pack it up and send it to George Vollema. It's a shame- it was running smoothly and quietly up to that point. Now I have to use my WW 1-70 which does not sound nearly as good, in spite of it's stylish cabinet.
