Machine transparencies (phonographs/parts/etc.)

This is another re-post, from 4 January, 2009 @ 13:52 EST:

Here are a couple more cut images that I wanted to share with you. The first I did a while ago, for JohnM’s avatar, from an image of his mahogany Opera:

Image

Next up is a crank from John’s collection that I cut out as an avatar idea for yankmycrank:

Image

While I believe that it is a generic crank (to be honest, I forget what John said about it), I thought you guys might appreciate it anyway. ;D

Expect more soon!

Another re-post:

The first image is a photo of a maroon Gem, graciously provided by Amberola 1-A. I’m not 100% satisfied with the crane (it probably would have been easier to cut against a different background), but here you go:

Image

The shadow was painted in, and is partially transparent, which is one of the advantages of the PNG image format. You might also note that it might look rather familiar, as the image is maroongem’s avatar (over on Matt’s Edison Board). The original photo can be seen here:

Image

The second image is an Edison Home that Neophone had me cut out for the TMF logo...

Image

I am currently working on stock avatars for this board, so if anyone here would like to provide me with images to use to cut out (larger is better), please feel free to e-mail them to me.

Anyway...if you haven’t seen the images before, I hope you enjoyed them, and if you have something that you would like me to cut out for you

May your 2009 be filled with music and phonographs!

Here is another re-post; the image that I cut for Starkton’s avatar from a reproducer from his collection in Germany.

Before:

After:

I still have quite a few images to re-post, and I am working on making more as well.

Hopefully you continue to enjoy seeing them (or getting to use them as avatars).

Brian,

I have them open in Photoshop, but between business travel and restarting the board, etc. I haven’t gotten far. However, you reminded me that I need to post the other images of your that I have cut (and hadn’t gotten back into this thread yet).

Ladies and gentleman, I re-present you (from brianu’s collection) the Vesper:

Please expect more (and new) images soon.

Here’s two more images (re-posted) that I made for John’s Talking Machine Info site and used as stock avatars here.

If anyone would like phonograph-related icons for Mac, Windows, or Linux, please let me know. As long as I have a 512 x 512 source image (the largest resource in these), I can make Mac OS X Leopard icons (which adds this resource size)—Windows still only uses 256 x 256 as a maximum resource size.

Here is (another re-post) the HomoPhone logo from Coyote’s avatar, both in white:

And as black line art (without the white fill):

And of course, just the machine:

I cannot recall if I posted this before or not, but here is the Auxetophone from Auxetophile’s avatar:

Image

And since I’m doing smaller avatar images, let me get a bit off-topic to include this one, as sort of a bonus, as it was created per BostonMike1’s request for his avatar:

Image

Please note that I am not insulting his intelligence, and while he may downplay his knowledge...the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask, usually before doing irreparable damage to one of your machines or records. ;)

...and that is not a picture of Michael.

David,

I've noticed that when watching your avatars with Window/Explorer the parts that should be transparent are all visible in white or light blue. When I look at them with Mac/Safari however, everything looks fine (i.e. the backgrounds aren't visible at all).
