Rich Gordon

You need heat, the shaft is soldered to the mandrel.

By the other replies to your question, and by your own discovery, I see that I was wrong. Very happy to know it! Not because I enjoy being wrong, but because I learned something here. Thanks guys!!!

Stan and I bought an Edison Concert a couple of weeks ago and it had a small metal piece that made an annoying sound when the mandrel turned. I tried the candle repair first without results. Perhaps I did not show enough patience. Next I went to a torch on low and it worked perfectly. No more noise. Thank you fellow forum members. It was a timely thread for me.
