Auction Goodies

Post by dutchman »

Picked up several items at a auction awhile back. The needle holder is full of needles. Its 7 inches long - press on the button on the left and each compartment slides open. The cylinder container has a tag inside from the merchant dated Sept. 23, 1899. The container looks rigid enough to drive a car over without damaging the cylinder inside..

The needle holder is a center pin holder for piano work. Center pins are the pins that piano action parts are pivoted upon. The holder that you've got is the old fashioned kind which of course these days are often replaced by plastic ones, but one can still buy the wooden holder like this. The number on top indicates the gage of the pins. The pins look rather like phonograph needles, being pointed at one end.
