The Next DD Batch (Help Me Pick)

Post by donniej »

Folks, I could use your help figuring out which discs to reproduce next. The amount of chemistry required always varies, so the exact number of discs I can mold does too. Since the materials are expensive, I'd appreciate input as to what order these should be prioritized. If you would be so kind, please post the titles below in order of what you think is "most likely to sell" to "least likely to sell" or similar.
There are discs not on this list that will be molded because they're being loaned to me and they'll definitely be hot sellers :D
These discs will all be single-sided.

51372 - "Radio"
3342-B-2-1 Tuning Disc
52108 "You'll Do it Someday"
50227 - "The Little Ford Rambled Right Along"
51575 - "Sweet Georgia Brown"
51622 - "Sweet Man"
51824 - "Would Ja?"
51588 - "Yes Sir, That's My Baby"
51588 - "Give Us the Charleston"

I would think these would sell:

51575 - "Sweet Georgia Brown"
51622 - "Sweet Man"
51372 - "Radio"
51588 - "Yes Sir, That's My Baby"

These, IMHO would not:

3342-B-2-1 Tuning Disc - nice novelty, but 5 minutes of one constant tone? No thanks.
50227 - "The Little Ford Rambled Right Along" - too common

I'm not familiar with the others.

52108 is actually an early Rudy Vallee record, and quite hot although the "mixing" could have been better IMO.

51824- Refresh my memory- Golden Gate Orch.? If so it should sell too. "Won't Cha?" is more ballad-y but the GGO version may be hot.

BTW, Don, if it's of interest I have the Columbia Personal "Bolton and Cipriano" version of "You'll Do It Someday" if you want to borrow it to make lateral copies too.

I don't know of any other copies of the Columbia but that's not to say they don't exist.

I'd also love to see some interest in Victrolac "Program Transcription" repros so I don't have to sacrifice my originals to the Victor Duo record thrower.

Donnie:

Have you thought about making copies of the Edison LP records for those that have Long Playing machines?
I don’t have a LP machine, but might be great for those that do.

Hey Jerry,
Yes, many times. My gut feeling is that not enough discs would sell to make it feasible. Its just way too small of a market. If a bunch of LP machine owners wanted to commision a few batches though, I'd be happy to.

In other news, "Give us the Charleston" is now ready and "Makin Whoopee" is in-progress. A big thanks to Marc for the loan of Makin Whoopee, it was very kind of him to loan out such a desirable disc.
