Historic Spoken Word Recordings

I, probably like you, have so many cylinders and records that a few years ago I decided to start "specializing" and collect recordings of historically significant people. I've collected things like Gen. Pershing, William Jennings Bryan, Will Rogers, etc.

I've also collected U.S. presidents from Teddy Roosevelt to Franklin Delano Roosevelt The only one I'm missing is President Herbert Hoover.

Do you know if Hoover ever made a record of a speech or something? I'd love to find one but I need to know what I'm looking for.

Here is a link that shows there are some speeches recorded by Hoover. I don't know if these were made available to the public or if they were just made for radio transmission.https://adp.library.ucsb.edu/index.php/ ... rt_speaker

Searching through sold discs on Popsike suggests that Phonogal is correct. Hopefully someone else here will know of a Nixon style recorder secretly hidden in his bookcase

[Swing Band Heaven]

Florence Nightingales recording dubbed from a cylinder is out there. The original cylinder was recorded in 1890 and was dubbed onto disk in the early 1930's. There is a you tube video of it. I managed to find my own copy last year

PM sent on the Nightingale record. Also, there are some Eugene Debs cylinders on eBay at the moment. Something you don't see every day!

I'm reading the cited page closely, and it says that while Len Spencer may have made some of these records, the one reviewed was NOT Len Spencer... unless my understanding of the English language has suddenly taken flight.

I've seen a lot of Len Spencer recitations and I have yet to see one where he (or another narrator/ reader) was not credited.

Read Rod Pickett's post and the ad shown there. The disc records were made by the speech writers. The cylinders were all recorded by Spencer.
