Spike Jones

Post by dutchman »

This is one of those cabin fever days - snow-rain-sleet. Great day to rummage through my 40+ machines. Found a Spike Jones and the City Slickers 78. I'm 79 and I remember my Father used to play Spike Jones records all the time. The press number is 20-2537. The titles are SIAM & PASS THE BISCUITS MIRANDY. How old is this recording?

Thanks

Bill k.

Your record may be one of those RCA Victor vinylite reissues from later 1940's or so.

The B-side is 1942 or so in it's original issue.

Spike Jones was one of the first 78's I wore out on my portable windup as a kid. Old MacDonald / Our Hour it was.

We have a Spike Jones & His City Slickers record and it makes me smile.

Very 'energetic' sound and lots going on.

Every New Years eve I play the flip side of All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth. It is "Happy New Years" with the whole band singing their New Years resolutions. Funny Stuff!

I like their parodies of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair (Brownie with the Light Blue Jeans), Dark Eyes (Hotcha Cornia), the Nutcracker suite (six sides of it), the Blue Danube (The Danube is Green). All funny and musically well done.
