Jean Goldkette and his orchestra on Victor 20031, 1926.

Post by Viva-Tonal »

For an early electric recording (recorded 22 April 1926), this record was cut remarkably 'hot' in level. Unfortunately this resulted in 'strained' grooves on some of the loudest passages when played on the average machine used then (pre-Orthophonic).

This record seems to me to be out of character for a Goldkette disc. All of them I'd heard previously had people like Bix Beiderbecke, Jimmy Dorsey, Joe Venuti, Frank Trumbauer and others adding lively solos. Beiderbecke is not on this recording, and the arrangements do not sound like they were the work of Bill Challis. Just typical mid-1920s fox trots played with the Goldkette band's standards of musicianship, if not with their normally inspired arrangements.

'Gimme a little kiss, will ya? Huh?'

'Lonesome and sorry'

Transferred at 76.5 rpm. Enjoy!
