Although I've known for long that this was a song from the 1920s this is probably the first time ever that I've actually heard a pre-Elvis version.

Somewhere I read that this version was Elvis's mother's favorite version of the song and she encouraged him to record it. The rest as they say is history.

Are you lonesome tonight? was widely recorded in the 20s. Henry Burr's Victor rendition is excellent.

I just happened to transfer Henry Burr's version less than a week ago. I agree it's very good, though my copy is pretty beat up. Here it is:
