'Original Greek blues'--'International Novelty Orchestra'

'International Novelty Orchestra': one of the names Nat Shilkret used for his musical groups on his Victor records of ethnic or ethnic-flavoured material.

This record has an unusual catalogue number, V-41; I don't know the significance of this. Its flip side is 'Oh baby' by Basil Fomeen and his orchestra.

The composer credit reads 'Demetriades--Shilkret' on OGB. I don't know the matrix number but judging from the sound quality I'd say this dates to 1928.

The low frequency extension of the overall recording is remarkable. The bass is quite hot in the mix; this, along with the closely-spaced grooves necessary to get 3 ½ minutes of music onto a 10 inch record side, helped this record develop strained grooves in several places from being played on common players 80 years ago.

Not all I.N.O. sides are ethnic flavored, there's some fairly standard dance band music waxed by them too.

Yes, the low end is impressive, those bass drum strikes really have some impact.
