My favourite Lauder recordings are his electrics from the mid twenties. Lauder's charm comes through more in these than in the acoustics I find. Some of his recordings of the serious songs are quite touching... He was unbelievably popular here in Canada, but then Canada is VERY " Scots"..virtually anyone in Ontario and the Martimes who's family has been here here for more than a couple of generations ( and a lot that haven't too) is usually half Scots. I've had friends from Scotland say about Toronto " Och it's like a big Glasgow... we feel richt at home.."
