A lovely and underrated band (though I realize that some people will claim that it's not "real" jazz). I've understood that Williams wrote all the arrangements for his band himself. A talented fellow!

He was classically trained.
Did you also know he was the uncle of modernist bassist Charles Mingus?

Thanks for that recording by Fess Williams. His Victor recordings are not easy to find. I have his Victor recordings on an old lp and also a cd. My favorite recording of his is Hot Town.
