Found this video on youtube the other day. I never realised Alice Faye could sing so well! The song is "But Definitely" and this is a snippit from the Shirly Temple film "Poor little rich girl" (1936). Hard to believe that Alice Faye was only 21 when this film was made. It also features an amazing piano that sounds like a whole orchestra when its played

Alice Faye was Fox's No. 1 female musical star during the mid/late-1930s through the mid-1940s.

If you've never seen it, try to find a copy of "Alexander's Ragtime Band."

And she's magnifique in "Hello, Frisco, Hello". She sings lots of songs from the vaudiville era that were extremely popular & her rendition of "You'll never know" is the best ever recorded IMO.
I've got a couple of her discs on the Regal Zonophone label, but none of them are in very good condition unfortunately.

Have to say, she's one of my fav's from the era. Unfortunately, Fox seems to monitor youtube, and pulls or mutes any video it deems in violation of copyrights, so there's not much available from them online.
There are, nonetheless, hundreds, if not thousands of full-length movies on youtube now. I've bookmarked about 500, so far, that I intend to watch--everything from The Jazz Singer (Jolson version) to I Walked with a Zombie.
Here's a clip, btw, of a major star who was never considered much of a singer, except, perhaps by camp followers. Nonetheless, I think she does a pretty darn good job:

Don't look now, but WMG has already disabled the soundtrack of the second part of The Jazz Singer.
I had a couple songs in my favorites list from Hello Frisco Hello, and they're now gone.
I downloaded software the other night to copy FLV files, so from now on I'll be copying anything I see on youtube that might disappear or have the audio disabled.
