Gilbert and Sullivan Records

I was given two books of 12 inch records containing two Gilbert and Sullivan operas. "The Pirates of Penzance" and "Patience". These are the original His Masters Voice 78rpm recordings. I would like to offer them for sale, but I don't think there would be much interest in them. If you believe I could be wrong, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Well, I have, from my family collection, a single disc from the "Pirates" album (C-6), featuring George Baker and company, on Canadian Victor. It would be nice to have a complete set: are these perhaps from the same sessions?

(And yes, I am a G&S fan)...

I don't have a complete set. Click on the photo and you can read the labels on all the disks. I would like to make enough to pay for shipping and a bit for my trouble.

Appears to be discs from the 1929 0r 1931 Pirates of Penzance set and the 1930 Patience set.

I'm a very big fan of G&S, having played in the orchestra for seven of the operettas, and I own a couple of the Malcolm Sargent recordings (Yeoman and Mikado, IIRC) on LP. I assume it's the same on the 78s as the LPs, in that the clever and witty, and often highly risible, dialogue is not included in the recordings. To me, you need both the musical numbers and the spoken exchanges that provide the reason for the songs! Of course, including dialogue would lengthen the records by several sides, so I suppose the omission is an economic thing, but I, for one, would be willing to pay more to get the whole piece instead of "just" the music!

The labels aren't easy to read, but the catalogue numbers are legible : they fall in the low and mid 500s of the "D" series. The HMV black label D 500 series date back to the acoustic period - this Pirates dating from 1920 and the Patience being recorded in 1921.

Still interested in these discs, though. How many are there in total?
