A Couple Of Questions From YouTube...

Post by Neophone »

Folks,

A couple of viewers of my YouTube page have asked two questions I don't know the answer to. Any help would be much appreciated.

First, are there any recordings of President Wilson playing the violin? Secondly, what are the earliest recordings of La Paloma vocal and instrumental?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
John

La Paloma was recorded on a brown wax cylinder by the Edison Symphony Orchestra and released on No. 565, most likely some time in 1896 or 1897. Exact dates of recording are not available for these very early cylinders. The song was also recorded on Edison brown wax by tenor Arturo Adamini on No. 4213 some time during the second half of the '90s and by F. de la Rosa on brown wax No. 4209. I don't know whether the latter was a vocal or instrumental.
