I wonder if anyone still follows the practice, favoured by some dealers thirty or more years ago, of taping a worn-out 78 on each side of the inner package, within the outer wrappings? I suppose the idea was that these supposedly unusable records would act as shock-absorbers, so that any rough handling would expend its force on them and not reach the items within. In some cases I have found myself enjoying and continuing to enjoy these sacrificial offerings far more than any of the records they were intended to protect.

I have done that before and sometimes used old chipped Edison DD's for that purpose.
