I hope everyone is having a great Memorial day weekend. I woke up early this morning and finally decided to do a little more research on a record I had found awhile back. There is NO coupling # on this record, labels gone and handwritten on brown label (see pictures)When I look up the matrix #(10065,10066) I found Artist A. F. Paganucci with a record date of 10/07/1924. I will call side R A)A Kiss B)In Rose Time and L side In the Garden of Tomorrow. It matches what is written on the record and in the data base and neither show a Coupling #. So that all looks good. I found this under "Experimental Recordings" on the Thomas Edison Site https://www.nps.gov/edis/learn/photosmu ... rdings.htm It is NOT the same recording but the dates are very close and the artist the same. I found this http://bobb-cypressgrovebluescom.blogsp ... -foot.html and this http://phonograph78.blogspot.com/2013/1 ... -idea.htmland these videos by Jack Stanley http://youtube/yjPzfTAuZN0 There were also a couple of mentions of the 125 foot horn project on this site. Sorry I should have done a better job of cleaning my fingerprints
Anyway, I am still trying to figure out if
1)this is in fact a recording from this session.(I'm thinking yes)
2)Who is "Shepherd" or is that "Stephens"?(heard his name mentioned in the youtube video) written on the record.
3) acc is written next to Paganucci's name in the data base and on R side. Is that an abbreviation for acoustic or something else?
I may wind up with more questions as I delve into this, but I hope you guys find this as interesting as I did. As always, Thanks for your input.
PS(the record is piano music and there does seem to be a bit of hollow or echo to the music, or is that my imagination running away with me )

The name on the label is clearly "Shepherd".
The only artist of that name I can associate with Edison is Elizabeth ('Betsy') Shepherd...
"acc" is an abbreviation for "accompaniment".
If you can post a video or audio link to this disc, it would be a great help.

I recorded these from my phone so the sound quality may not be the best. I can always do it again, right? Anyway I would be interested in your input.

If nothing else I learned quite a bit. Listen here to Jerry Fabris in 2005 on the subject

There seems to be something wrong with the YT links....DGPros wrote:I recorded these from my phone so the sound quality may not be the best. I can always do it again, right? Anyway I would be interested in your input.

Re: Edison Diamond Disc "Paganucci" 125' horn exptl. record
That is quite interesting. I have most everything on piano that Edison made available but never heard this selection or the Artist before. It has a sound that seems to be somewhat deeper than the average edison piano selection unless there is some tweaking caused by the auto pick up on the phone microphone. That is always tricky. I would love to have had a selection like this, too bad if it was never actually released. It might be as you say the second selection on the one side becomes sort of "over recorded" sounding if there is such a thing. That may have prevented it from being released. I wonder do some of you who might have information on latter records find this artist as having released selections by Edison?
Your William and Mary sounds great as is the cabinet. I have the console but admire the uprights as well.
Larry
Acousticedison on You Tube. (funny after I watched one side somehow you tube showed on of my last videos in place of your second side).. These computers are certainly sneaky. )

Thanks for your reply Larry. Surprisingly it recorded pretty well for a phone. I found the audio of Jerry Fabris to be very interesting and educational. Having listening to it , I am even more sure this is a recording from the experiment. We may never know for sure though. Gary
Ps I originally bought the wm for a friend who was leaning towards buying it. After seeing and listening to it I told him I would hold on to it till he made up his mind. I've had it for over 6 months now

Re: Edison Diamond Disc "Paganucci" 125' horn exptl. record
I wonder whether the legend "acc. record" on the first side, linked with "Shepherd", might indicate that it was intended as a background accompaniment to Ms. Shepherd's singing? Is there any sign that a record was ever issued of these pieces, with her vocals?

Could this have been a tone test demonstration record?Lucius1958 wrote:I wonder whether the legend "acc. record" on the first side, linked with "Shepherd", might indicate that it was intended as a background accompaniment to Ms. Shepherd's singing?
