This cylinder is listed on eBay for $499. Here is the description.

Columbia 4 Minute Indestructible Record. Number 3237. Le Caid: Overture Orchestra. Ambroise Thomas. Very Clean except for bottom inside rust on metal that does not and will not hinder play. Probably should be cleaned with a reamer or sandpaper. Amazing insert as seen in photos.

What do you think of the price and rarity of this cylinder?

I saw this and other cylinders posted by the same seller for what I consider high prices, but I don't know anything about them, so I would also be curious to learn about their rarity or significance.

Thanks
Andreas

A lot of eBay sellers appear to be graduates of the P.T. Barnum school of business. "There's a sucker born every minute".

The seller's other items are overpriced as well. That should be a clue.

The only thing original in the auction was the cylinder itself. Nothing amazing about the insert or the box either. The box was just some generic reproduction box and the insert was just a note from one collector to another.

The song doesn't look familiar either...so it may be absolutely nothing special.

A sucker born every minute is right..
