The Fireman's Song by Hamilton Hill

Post by solophoneman »

I found out recently that one of my U.S. Everlasting Cylinders is from one of the earliest all sound Movies. It is U.S Everlasting #235 "The Fireman's Song, and the singer is Hamilton Hill who is listed as the only star of the movie. Can you imagine a Sound Film from 1906? They syncronized the Film to the sound from a phonograph record. It would be interesting to know whether this performance by Hamilton Hill on Everlasting, complete with the sound effects of Galloping Horses, Clanging Bells and shouting Crowds was the very record cut used in the film. U.S. Everlasting was well known for its extremely Loud cylinders and this one is no exception. According this internet site, it is not known whether this short sound film still exists. How exciting would it be to find out it does, and then have away to run the old film and play the record to it. Here is the internet site that lists the film.

Here is the cylinder played on my Columbia BF Peerless. This really demonstrates the loudness of these U.S. Everlasting Cylinders. Great Singing, band and sound effects.
