CDBPDX wrote:Found a Brunswick test pressing of LOVE IN BLOOM by Bing Crosby from 1934. The flip side has a song I do not recognize. Anybody know what/who this is? and how it got on the back of a Bing Crosby test pressing? The matrix number in the dead wax on the flip side is 13941. I think it is a Brunswick number but it doesn't show up in the 78DISCOGRAPHY.

Thanks! Cliff

The song is Barefoot Boy With Boots On and the singer sounds very much like Cliff Carlisle.

Not sure if Carlisle ever had issued records for Brunswick, though.

Carlisle did have records issued on Conqueror, as did Bing Crosby. Conqueror was one label in the ARC as was Brunswick at the time.

Crosby's Love In Bloom in shown on Conqueror in the 78 discography site. Can't spot the Carlisle side, perhaps it was rejected.

It was issued on Conqueror 8231 - BAREFOOT BOY WITH BOOTS ON by Bill Cox recorded 9/2/1933. I searched the 78DISCOGRAPHY and finally found the matrix in the Conqueror label discography. Whew!

You can listen to this side on YouTube at:

Enjoy!

Still no clue how this ended up on the flip side of a 1934 Bing Crosby test pressing.

Found a couple 10" Victor 'FOR THEATER USE' 78s. Haven't seen these before. Apparently, they were used to complement the soundtracks on early talkie movies. Cool!

Just when I thought I had all the Moran and Mack TWO BLACK CROWS records, I found another just now in box 14.

This seems to be a single sided special issue featuring Moran and Mack as the Two Black Crows in the A.E.F. Haven't listened to it yet, but I will very soon.

Holy cow! This record from box 15 is truly a keeper! The Original Memphis Five on a Viva-Tonal Columbia from 1931 in excellent condition. Every once in a while, it all comes together to produce an outstanding recording. Enjoy!

That is indeed a great one- I have a royal blue copy with a black label. That looks like a hell of a nice collection you picked up, Cliff!

Found this record in box 16. It was broken and a bit moldy, but it has 3 autographs - Jo Stafford, Tommy Dorsey, and Dick Haymes. Pretty cool!
