"Take Me Out to the Ball Game"

Post by donniej »

I'm quite pleased with the latest 10" disc that a kind collector loaned me for duplication. Victor 5570, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" by Haydn Quartet. Is this the first version of this famous song?

Great job! Will you be offering them for sale? Are they playable with steel needles on vintage machines without damage?

Steel needles? That's the point! (Bad pun.)

You know how a 180g LP compares to a normal LP? Imagine a 78rpm equivalent. These are the thickest, heaviest 78s I ever saw and I am glad his Maple Leaf Rag is part of the collection. I hope to add at least a couple Berliners, maybe some 10",s and I wish there were some 12" ragtime Band selections.

I could possibly turn in a few discs. Would you be interested in vertical-cut jass (Empire Talking Machine) from 1919?

Thanks guys!

Pete, yes they are available, and yes they play with steel needles. As Charles mentioned, that's the point! Otherwise we might as well just listen to them on youtube :D

Also as Charles mentioned, they're fairly thick. I try to make them ⅛" thick, since the post office seems to have trouble braking these

^^^^ shhhhh! The post office is always listening. Now they will start breaking these to prove the point of, "If it can be shipped, it can be broken!"

Are there any copyright issues here, or is this stuff "public domain." Thanks.

Search the board (and the web) for information about sound recording copyright and you'll find detailed commentary.
