Wedding Song help--

Post by outune »

In about 4 months, my oldest daughter is getting married. When she was little, she regularly "danced", standing on my feet, while I played my Orthophonic Crendenza. She has asked if I can have a phono at the wedding reception and play something for the Daddy-Daughter dance.
I plan to take a Victor II--

I NEED HELP-- in choosing a song. I've thought of "Daddy's Little Girl" (Mills Brothers)-- I ruled out Aunt Dinah's Golden Wedding :)

I'd appreciate suggestions from those of you who are better versed in records than I am. I could also take a cylinder machine if a song option is found only on cylinder.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

I did some looking around and found some things as possiblities.

https://youtu.be/nT_rtK-EjlQ Peggy Lee "I'll Dance at Your Wedding" 1947 - 78 on ebay

https://youtu.be/17eQPxMO54U Andy Williams "The Hawaiian Wedding Song" 1959 - There is a 45 version of this on ebay. Could be on 78 as well.

https://youtu.be/wLYy0h_Fe6w Swing and Sway with Sammy Kaye "An Apple Blossom Wedding" 1947 - 78 available on ebay

https://youtu.be/ATAxdADng1w The Chordettes "The Wedding" - 45 on ebay. Probably on 78 too.

Good luck and let us know what you ultimately decide to do.

I recently did similar for a relatives wedding. She wanted a phonograph playing the music before and during the ceremony, lots of it was fun, all was wedding related. They're still in a crate somewhere, I'll put a list of them together.

Vernon Dalhart's "Golden Slippers" is a good one, and one of his few cheery songs :)

Cadence 1364, which is an Everly Brothers records, exists on a fairly scarce 78, so it's safe to assume that Williams' records (Cadence 1358) exists on 78 as well.

For a very traditional classic wedding it would be hard to beat The Second Waltz by Shostakovich...

Or a traditional Jewish favorite - Hava Nagila...

Thanks everyone- Keep those ideas coming-- So far, most of the songs suggested have lyrics that are a little too "romantic" for a father to a daughter... But I really appreciate the help. My wife and I have been listening to all the links provided.

Please send any other possibilities. In the running so far- "You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby." and "Daddy's Little Girl" (sort of corny...but sweet)

There has to be some others.

Thanks All!!
