Pathé's own 'Concert' and 'Pathéphone Automatique' models, as well as the various brands of coin-op phonographs mainly known as 'Concert Automatique' phonographs all have motors that are strong enough to easily play those large 19.75" (50 cm) records. To this day, most of these phonographs can only be found in Europe, mainly in France of course.

Here are eight different size discs that Pathé offered. The second largest one is a 15.75" disc, yet seems relatively small when compared to that 19.75" Pathé-Concert one.

Several Pathé machines can play the 50 cm discs, like the nr 12, the nr 17, the Concert and the Salon. These machines were all fitted with long cranks to allow winding with the record on the turntable. The concert automatique coin ops (which are not made by Pathé, but by a Velizy factory) were not made for these large records (their record storage compartment does not fit these 50 cm records), but they can play them if you remove the arm rest.

Apart from the 50-cm records made to be played at lower rpm than the standard 90 rpm mentioned by Epigramophone, most of the 50-cm production was designed to play at higher speed (120-130 rpm), and have the same duration as the smaller records. I have actually a 50-cm and a 12-inch, both with the same recording. The difference is in the volume, the 50-cm is louder than the 12-inch.

A 50 cm disc in good shape and with interesting content will range around 150 to 250 euro in France and Germany. I would not call them rare, but scarce. The main flaw in these discs is warpage: due to their size, even slightly warped discs will cause the tone arm to go airborne as they reach the outer rim. They are also hell to store: heavy, cumbersome and fragile.

I have Pathé disks with etched labels in 6 sizes, going from 5.5” (just one in this size which,I think, was for the Pathé Jeunesse) through 20” . Could you indicate what I'm missing?
Thanks,
Jeff

If you count the non etched later releases, there is at least one slightly smaller than 50 cm, maybe 45 or so, with white paper label. I have two or three of these but never measured their diameter, will look for them and find out.

As far as I know, the Pathé discs were released in ten different diameters: 17cm, 21cm, 24cm, 25cm, 27cm, 28cm, 29cm, 35cm, 40cm and 50cm (6.5", 8.25", 9.5", 10", 10.5", 11.25", 11.5", 13.75", 15.75" and 19.75").

Hello and my apologies for the mistake...
I messed up with my ruler in inches and, by now, will just speak in centimeters! My smallest disk is a 17cm one.

Phonopal, thanks a lot for the information. So, I'm still missing several sizes of etched Pathé disks.

Please note that not all of the different diameters that I have listed here earlier have necessarily been released with etched labels. The 29cm and the 40cm discs for instance might have only be released with paper labels, while I believe that the 25cm ones were only released as needle-cut discs.
