Any period ( WW I ) records of "When I get back to the USA"

Post by De Soto Frank »

Song written by Irving Berlin ?

Would expect performances by the usual suspects - Billy Murray, etc ?

You-tube transcription from the DD (clearer lyrics)...

Blue Amberol:

This an example of Berlin's "double-song" technique, where he would introduce one melody, then after the first time through, add a countermelody sung by another vocalist or chorus... in this case, the chorus sings "My Country 'tis of thee", re-cast in 4/4 time against Murray's solo.

Thanks for the Victor info Frank! I have this record, and I couldn't quite decipher all of the voices.

I might have a copy of the cylinder version, and will go try to hunt it down for you if you want it.
