Par-o-ket record Selections from "Carmen"

Post by melvind »

Here is an interesting record. Not a wonderful performance. Not great manufacturing. But, the company was only in business for 2 years so the vertical cut records are a bit rare. There have been other threads on TMF about Par-o-ket records, but I thought a video of one might prove interesting. It was enlightening to me that Henry Burr and Fred Van Eps Co-founded the company. So, a fun bit of record history from 1916.

Thanks for posting this. I've never seen or heard a Paro-ket; now I have. (Not bad technically.)

This was all packed onto two sides of a 6 or 7 inch record, right? The band themselves are a bit questionable, but the recording seems on par with other secondary labels in the 1910s - of course Victor, Columbia and Edison would have the best talent and equipment though.

Yes. It is two sides of a 7" record. And it is a vertical cut record.
