I've never seen a 12 inch Uncle Josh, some of the Collins & Harlan ones are funny. Occasionally I'll find an American pressing of an English Music Hall performer

I’m always interested in those artists when I find them. But I’ve never came across any of their 12 inch stuff.

Never seen 12" Uncle Josh either. I went through a little Uncle Josh phase some years ago, but they don't really interest me anymore. Ditto for just about any comedy from then, it doesn't really do it for me. Golden and Hughes with their racist schtick, bah. Collins and Harlan I'll make an exception, I enjoy some of their records.

One thing with records- I've collectors will bend over backward to defend a VERY racist recording if Bert Williams made it.

Defending something made 100 years ago is silly.

Also, hating on something made 100 years ago is silly.

It was there, it was cool, it happened, and it's necessary to break up the monotony of unrelieved Uncle Josh cylinders.

For the most part I agree with you, but Golden & Hughes' sketch "Working on the Farm" is hilarious and one of their best recordings. They were quite talented comedians, I would definitely collect more of their material had not 80% been racist schlock.

I like the Avon Comedy Four:

Waiter is this pie apple or peach- they look the same

Taste it!

They taste the same!

What did you want?

Peach

Then it's peach- eat it!

Waiter I want to see the manager!

He's across the street, eating in a GOOD restaurant!
