Did The Client Records Come With Sleeves?

Post by Phonofreak »

I was always wondering, did the Client records like Standard, Harmony, United, Aretino, ETC,come with matching record sleeves? I haven't seen any before, so I am curious about them.

Yes.

I've got lots of those 1920's Harmony sleeves. "A Quality Product At A Popular Price" is the legend they bear. And indeed, they were.

I think he means the Large Hole version of Harmony, not the later one.

The earlier Columbia sleeves I've come across are all in wretched condition because of the thick stiff paper they were printed on.

Oh, large hole Harmony. I'll bet you're right.

Yes, the thick paper stock that Columbia utilized way back in the earlier 20th century is often crumbling.

Yes, I'm talking about the large spindle records and oddball ones pressed by Columbia. The United sleeve is just what I am talking about. Thanks for the link.

Hi Harvey,

Pictured below are five examples of 10-inch sleeves I own for the Chicago, scheme record brands --- one Harmony; three different Standards; and one United. I have never seen sleeves for: Aretino; Busy Bee; D&R; Diamond; Englewood; Consolidated; or Royal (those are the brands that come to mind now, although I may have missed a few). I realize not all of these record brands have oddball spindle sizes. I am eager to obtain examples of sleeves I don't yet have!

Also, I found several other different examples on the internet: two Harmony sleeves, and one United sleeve.

Anybody have others to share?

Bob

Thanks for posting these pictures. I can see that very few have survived because of the cheap, pulp paper. What would be great if someone can make reproductions of these sleeves. I'm sure it will be a lot of hard work to make them.
