Just a quick question for the record collectors out here. Is there any value (extra value) in the brown wax records like the ones pictured? Just wondering. Thanks.

Re: BROWN RECORDS
Lots of companies made brown shellac discs, Perfect probably being the biggest. Being brown doesn't effect the value one way or the other.

Re: BROWN RECORDS
I think Vocalion was probably the biggest purveyor of brown shellac records.
Nothing special in terms of value / rarity.
Even Victor records were pressed on brown shellac in Canada.

[quote="Wolfe"]I think Vocalion was probably the biggest purveyor of brown shellac records.
Which they specifically called "Red Records".
After Vocalion I'd say that the most frequently encountered ones are on dime store labels like Grey Gull and Domino, possibly both coming from the same pressing plant.

Re: BROWN RECORDS
They did advertise them as red records. I suppose that is more accurate for how they look, they more of a red tone when looked at up close.

Re: BROWN RECORDS
Paramount issued a few brown shellac records around 1923-24.When I think of brown records I think of what a salesman told my late friend Jerry Donnell in 1934.He told Jerry that these were made out of sweet potatoes! Of course, the guy was pulling Jerry's leg.edisonplayer
