"(COP'R)" on Indestructibles?

Post by Lucius1958 »

So, when I brought my Triumph home, I noticed it still had a cylinder on the mandrel: Indestructible #1248, Has Anybody Here Seen Kelly?, by Ada Jones.

But, oddly enough, I saw something I don't recall seeing on other Indestructibles: the annotation, "(COP'R)", after the patent date. Is this unusual? How long was this marking used?

Probably a notation (short-lived I expect) to indicate the copyright fees had been paid for use of that song. After the 1909 passage of the copyright law, some disc records affixed a sticker to show that a fee had been paid, but again this must have been short-lived.
