Red Vocalian Records Question

Post by melvind »

I have recorded a few Red Vocalian records that are so clean they amaze me. It could be that these records have rarely been played, but it also has to be that they were made very well. Does anyone have information on the clean playing surface of Red Vocalian records?

Also, the following videos are a Red Vocalin record by Al Jocker's Dance Orchestra. I cannot find any information on them. Does anyone know much about them? Perhaps not the best orchestra of the time, but not too bad either.

Their color comes from not adding carbon, which was used as the pigment to make discs black. The red color is from the clays used, which make up a bulk of the discs composition. Its not a coincidence that its similar to that of Southern soil :)

Very nice transfers! Sounds like all the musicians were right up front near the recording horn!
Thanks for posting!
