Recently, I was lucky to find a cache of Berliner's in which contained an elusive 1892 disc. The date is not a typo but is in fact Dec 6 1892. Although the consensus of some experts believe they may have been pressed at a later date. Yet, only a handful exist today.
Some of these '92 recordings have the typo "other parents applied for" present.
An excellent article was written years ago by Micheal Sherman in Allen Koenigsburg's APM (Vol IX-No.3 Issue No. 83) discussing these plates and the embryonic era of Berliner's development.
Recently, Micheal with David Giovannoni published a Monograph on American Berliner's from 1892-1900. A wonderful and informative book. I would highly recommend to all who have interest on this subject to buy one ( I believe offered through Kurt's record auction).
This is an unsolicited plug.
