Edison discs on the DAHR

Post by Wolfe »

The DAHR now has 2,000 Edison discs for streaming or download (direct download is a new development). It's been some time since DAHR has added new audio content, so it may be of interest to some. Sometime this year they plan to offer audio "for every Diamond Disc they can locate." Go DAHR !

I frequently look for songs on You Tube only to find that they are not available. DAHR is a great resource and I'm grateful that you posted the link. :D

Nice to have late electrical DD's accessible this way too :

I have this ^ with Rolfe & De Leath on one of the few Needle Cut records I have. This is a different take.

Sounds like they opted for a more or less 'flat' transfer, but the bass is there if you turn it up. Small quibble, really.

I recently posted two transfers of this same take on my YouTube channel (pghcoyote), one on a turntable and one on a C-19. I don't think the bass came out as well as I would have liked in either, even with some equalization tweaking. This is take B from the Diamond Disc.

What's the deal with the volume changes on these new files ?

Anybody notice this on their players ? Volume shifting up and down, or something that sounds like an audio compressor set on 'kill' affecting a lot of the new files.

Disappointing.

Sounds like they've rectified the problem now. Which I'm sure will provide much relief to those here in the forum :P
