V-Disc /searching for more info

Post by SteveinAlaska »

As I understand it, V-Disc were shipped to the troops during WW2 and I have sen photos of them being played on acoustic players.

Does anyone know what brand or which company built the players

Second question...Is there a discography available so I would be able to date the records?

Thanks Steve

According to another site, one army portable was the Portelec Model 9E, manufactured by Pacific Sound Equipment of Hollywood CA. Apparently you can Google these names and get more info and images.
Someone also has one made by (or branded) Boetsch Bros, which resembles the Portelec model..

BTW: Tyrone Settlemier's "Online 78 discographical project" website has V-disc listed as "coming soon".
I'm not aware of any other online source with a V-disc list, but it might be available to buy elsewhere in printed form.
I guess you could contact Tyrone via his website or facebook O78DP page, to see if he's aware of such a publication.
