Early use of Nipper on a disc?

Post by Jerry B. »

I bought a few records at our local antique shop including this disc. Wasn't this image a very early use of Nipper on a Victor product? Comments appreciated.

Yes, that's the first "dog label" used by Victor ca. February 1902.

Berliner in Canada superimposed the trademark image in the record grooves about a year earlier.

It took The Gramophone Company until 1909 before Nipper appeared on the British record labels.
They were remarkably slow to appreciate the full potential of this iconic image.

Wow! I'd love to find one of those!

Jerry,

Two of these Berliners are shown on page 121 (Fig. 3-54) of Antique Phonograph Accessories & Contraptions.

I own the book. That's probably as close as I'll get. ;)
