ada jones question

Post by phonograph guy3435 »

whats your favorite song by Ada Jones?, It doesn't only have to be only her it can also be her collaborations with other people. I like the songs "that's how I lost him" and "The Pussycat Rag" and "he lost her in the subway".

U.S. Everlasting cylinder #1186 “Come Josephine In My Flying Machine”. I have about 30% of all US Everlasting cylinders produced.

I have a recording on a Columbia disc with her, although her name doesn't appear - artistes are given as the White Star Entertainers. The song is Sunrise at the Zoo, recorded around 1908, and very entertaining it is too!

It took me years to find The Pussycat Rag on Blue Amberol. Our cat Holly is not sure what to make of it.

Unfortunately I am not responsible enough to own cylinders but I do have a few Ada Jones records.

My favourite is 'Now I have to call him father'.

It just 'conjures up' to me some of the fun when people went to music halls.

I can imagine the audience joining in and making bawdy comments or singing along when she sang parts of it and Ada 'playing up' to them.

Very much 'of the time' perhaps.

Not necessarily my favourite by Ada Jones, but certainly the favourite from my collection would be 1909's comedic I've Got Rings On My Fingers.

It is probably my wife's favourite ear-worm disk from among the pre-1920 collection.

The song is reasonably well documented as having been written in 1909 and having been a hit for both Jones and Blanche Ring in the same year, so I do not understand claims for a date of 1902 for cylinders of the tune:

Assuming that this is an Indestructible cylinder, 1902 is the patent date for the manufacturing process, not the recording.
