This is why you shouldn’t buy 78s off of eBay unless you absolutely need to.

Even if worded as graciously as possible, there is the occasional seller who will reply to instructions with "it should be good enough." Nothing has ever been broken by such folks, but no, the packing has never been "good enough," either.
Which reminds me of a 1901-02 Climax that somehow survived despite being in a thin box for LP's with some flimsy bubble-wrap and nothing else. I sent what to me seemed a kind recommendation as to packaging 78's in the future, and I got "yeah USPS is rough on packages." Sure, pal--that sounds promising.
Sorry for that experience that you had. It was a sad ending for that record, but I hope that you'll find another, soon!
