That's pretty effective editing. We don't actually see the record breaking.

It is sad the phonograph replaced the piano.
Derek Bailey, the famous or infamous UK guitarist (studio musician, Swing band player, Flamenco player, and outside, way, way outside the envelope experimental player), once said that the worst thing to happen to music in the UK was the (eventual) post-WWII prosperity that put a phonograph in almost every home. Many people stopped singing and playing. And once the general public had firm ideas of how a piece of music was supposed to sound from listening to it repeatedly on record, they were less accepting of different arrangements performed live. Live musicians started to be forced into doing rigid covers of popular recorded music, rather than being creative with music.
