Brahms conducted by Stokowski in 1917.

Post by Viva-Tonal »

This is one of the best known pieces of Brahms, here in one of Stokowski and the Philadelphia's earliest recordings. Though an acoustic recording, it is apparent he brought a number of string bassists into the studio, although one or more tubas double their parts. As a result, this is something rarely encountered: an acoustic recording with a degree of real bass response, here extending to just below 60 Hz.

Released on Victor Red Seal 64752. Transferred at 76.5 rpm.

Sounds nice! Those Brahms Hungarian dances seem to be quite popular on 78 singles from back when.

That one is no slouch.
