as you all know, I am pretty fussy when it comes to sound quality of cylinder recording, and playback.
My new glass diaphragms arrived yesterday from Mr. Hawes and I must say I put one in my 1890's Edison standard speaker style recorder, today and have been trying it out , and am very impressed, I can dub form catalog, and make very loud and clear, non distorted recordings. They have very good bass and treble, and transient response, and punchy clear quick action. I recorded my voice, a violin, cornet and when at 160, sounds like a clear gold moulded record and when at 120-125, identical to any of the best Edward Favor brown wax Edison studio recordings. I recommend these for any Edison reproducer. I am thinking of replacing all my cylinder reproducer, and recorder diaphragms with these glass ones. In my opinion glass sounds the best, it is just fragile. The price is reasonable too.
